We took a different approach with the preview for the massive Southern Section, breaking it up by divisions and breaking those divisions up by competitive "tiers" or projected levels of competitive ability. Here is a detailed look at Division IV boys and girls.
Division IV is dominated by the Southern Section at the State level and returns both defending champions in Malibu senior Claudia Lane among the girls and San Juan Capistrano JSerra junior Anthony Glover on the boys side. From the State final, 13 boys are returning out of the top 20 finishers and six of those are from the SS. It's even deeper on the girls side where 20 of the top 25 finishers are returning with 14 coming from the SS.
Cathedral is the defending boys team champion with four of the top eight and six of the top 10 from State all from the Southern Section. Foothill Technology is the defending girls State champion and leads a group of six SS schools from the top 10.
