2018 North Coast Section XC Detailed Preview

Division 2 Boys

Teams to Watch (Full Rankings)

Last season, three teams were heads and shoulders above the rest of the field and represented the section at the California state meet. They were Dublin, Granada and De La Salle. With Dublin now competing in the Division I race, the favorite's role should fall upon last year's second place team, Granada. They finished in 9th place at the state meet and will return five of their top seven from last season. De La Salle has been one of the premier cross country programs and in the history of the section cross country meet, DLS has won seventeen section titles which stands as the section record. DLS found itself in an unusal situation in the 2015 and 2016 seasons when they failed to qualify for the state meet. They made up for the close misses in 2017 by charging to a well earned third place finish led by individual titlist, Connor Livingston. Aside from Livingston, DLS returns only one varsity athlete but should once again be in the mix for a top-three finish. They will need to fend off College Park, Foothill, Heritage and Mission San Jose who all seem to have state meet aspirations with the new look division in 2018.

Athletes to Watch (Full Rankings)

The favorite to win the individual title will be defending champion, Connor Livingston. He was impressive during the 2017 XC season but really stepped up his game during the spring Track and Field season. He recorded personal bests of 4:16.23 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions and saved his best 3200m race for the state final where he rallied to a 6th place podium finish and 9:03.75 personal best. His main competition should come from Foothill's Russell Sullivan (4:24.96/9:15.64), Granada's Tyler Hattori (4:24.21/9:39.17) and Heritage runner, Maxwell Waechter (4:26.83/9:35.95). A couple of other runners that will be aiming for top ten finishes are Seth Jeppson of Granada and Arnav Arora of Mission San Jose.
