5. Alysah Hickey (Coronado)
Performance: CIF State Champ in Long Jump, 4th in High Jump
On the one hand, this is a case of what could have been: if Hickey had cleared her season best in the high jump, she could have brought home two titles. On the other hand, the Coronado junior rose to the occasion magnificently in the long jump, emerging from a muddled group of contenders to post a wind-legal state-leading mark of 19' 9.75" (also US #11). This was a breakthrough year for her in both events, and she will have one more chance to try to double - we can't wait!
