MileSplitCA Awards: Girls Individual Performance of the Year

We've reached the final stage of our 2018 Track & Field season wrap-up: the MileSplitCA Awards! Now that the All-State Teams are finished (overall boys will be published Monday), we would like to recognize the people and moments that stood out the most even when compared with other elites - in other words, the athletes, coaches, and performances that made 2018 truly special! Starting today, we will recognize the following:

  • Performances of the Year
  • Coaches of the Year
  • Field Event Athletes of the Year
  • Track Event Athletes of the Year

Today we will look at the top 5 girls' performances of the 2018 spring season, in our opinion. Interestingly, nearly every performance considered here happened at the CIF State Meet, which is a bit unusual. In most seasons, there are athletes that post epic multiple-event performances at some point during the season before focusing on one or two in the postseason, or who put up state-leading marks but then have their season end early due to injury. In 2018, though, California's top girls brought their best when it counted the most! That made it even tougher to pull out 5 truly head-turning single-meet performances, and to make the list an athlete had to be 4th or better at the state meet in TWO events. That's extremely elite company, and it's a sign of just how amazing this season and state meet were!
