In a year dominated by girls distance runners, where do you draw the line for all-state first team consideration beyond CIF-State Meet champions?
We capped the grade-specific teams at 17. But that doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room for deserving first-teamers on the overall team, athletes who may not have won a State Meet title yet boost an impressive body of work to consider.
So yes, while it was the year where girls distance runners put up collectively historic numbers that dominated the national leaders lists unlike any other event or event group, we were judicious in how we filled those six non-champion slots.
The MileSplitCA All-State Teams are subjective selections with strong consideration given to CIF-State Meet winners, State Meet medalists, season-long consistency at a high level, national ranking, and versatility. Top ranking within a certain grade level is a consideration but not a guarantee of mention here.
