Long Jumpers Go Big At San Diego Section Finals

 ELLIS-CHRISTON TRADE WINS

One of the surprises came in the boys 200-meter dash where Mt. Carmel's Quoi Ellis came back from losing to Madison junior Kenan Christon in the 100 (10.68-10.72) to pass Christon in the final five meters, winning the furlong race in a windy 21.19 seconds to Christin's 21.20.

The two friends and sometimes training partners will get to try again in Clovis where Christon will also run on the 4x100 relay and long jump.

"At the start of the 100 I found myself in third place and I just told myself to relax," said Christon of the rare poor start. "When I saw Quoi ahead of me I told myself, 'you can do this.'"

Ellis was the one who came from behind in the 200, chasing down Christon right before the finish line.

Two other marks that should make waves heading into the State Meet were a 16-5 in the pole vault by San Dieguito's Kevin Ward and a fine 37.81 in the 300-meter hurdles by Rancho Bernardo's Josh Farmer.
