Kelsey Chmiel wins at Edinburgh XC; Claudia Lane No. 2 U.S. finisher

Kelsey Chmiel (Sarasota Springs, NY) won the Junior Women's race at the Great Edinburgh XCountry Challenge on Saturday morning in Edinburgh, Scotland.


Chmiel, runner-up at Nike Cross Nationals in December, covered the 4K course in 14:10. Mariana Machado of Portugal was second (14:13) and European U20 5000m champion Jasmijn Lau of Netherlands was third, also in 14:13. (Lau was second in 2017.)

California phenom Claudia Lane was seventh in 14:30, the No. 2 finisher for the six-member U.S. team. Lane, a junior at Malibu (CA) High, is a two-time Foot Locker National champion.
