A tight pack held well into the second mile before Loyola senior Shane Bissell was able to sprint ahead at the end to hold off Crescenta Valley senior Colin FitzGerald and 10 other seniors who all finished 14:54.10 or better.
While this is FitzGerald's second consecutive runner-up finish here, Bissell was a non-scoring 46th overall (43rd among team scorers) last year in the D2 final.
William Frankenfeld, a junior from Long Beach Poly, was the first non-senior to finish. He was 13th (14:55.10). The top 17 all came in under 15 minutes, in what was essentially a lead pack from just about start to finish.
Senior Carlos Carvajal was fourth overall (14:43.40) leading an 86-point Great Oak finish (4+13+17+19+33) and a third consecutive section title for the Wolfpack.
Tyler Spencer was third overall (14:41.60) and the top finisher for team runner-up Roosevelt (145, 3+8+24+35+75).
