History tells us two things about the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 girls race: 1. Great Oak will be hard to beat in the team race and, 2. Riverside King junior Lauren Peurifoy and Walnut junior Chloe Arriaga's battle for section supremacy just may come down to a sprint down the Riverside Championship Course's dirt path to the finish. 

Peurifoy threw down the gauntlet at the Section prelims, running a D1 course record (16:35.70, nearly 21 seconds under her Section final posting as a sophomore), leaving Arriaga nearly 11 seconds back.

But a year ago, it was Arriaga with a near-nine second victory, her second section individual title in as many years. So, game on!

Riverside North freshman Makayla Browne had the third-fastest clocking at prelims.

Great Oak's girls under Coach Doug Soles have won seven of the last eight section titles and six of the last seven State titles. The Wolfpack placed four in the top 10 at last year's section final and went 3-4-5-8-10 for 30 points, 95 ahead of runner-up Dana Hills.
