Boys #CountdownToXC Day 3: Eleanor Roosevelt

I don't think many people realize how deep Eleanor Roosevelt could be this fall. The Mustangs had two seniors in the top 7 that finished 3rd in Division 1 last November, but only 1 in the top 5 - and they also had 2 freshmen on the squad, which is almost unheard of for a team competing at the highest level in California. Those two freshmen ran 4:33 and 4:27 on the track, by the way, with a third at 4:47 (and all three ran under 10 minutes, led by Raul Chavez at 9:33). They were part of a very strong spring season for Eleanor Roosevelt overall: 6 sub-4:30 returners, 10 who ran 10:01 or faster. Seniors Raymon Ornelas and Tyler Spencer ran 9:08 and 9:09 in the 3200, showing that they're on the verge of individual greatness. If the young talent comes along enough to pair with the strong senior class, the Mustangs could be very strong this fall. Unfortunately, their chief rivals in both the Southern Section and the state overall also return very strong squads. Still, a return to the podium is definitely possible for Eleanor Roosevelt, and they should be good enough to beat just about anybody on the state on any given Saturday.
