Girls #CountdownToXC Day 4: Canyon (Anaheim Hills)

What's not to like about Canyon's 2017 squad? The Comanches have one of the best runners in the state up front in Sara Leonard, whose 10:25 for the 3200 this spring is a sign that she will be even better this fall. They return 4 sub-19 5K runners as well as 4 that broke 18 for 3 Miles, and have all seven runners back from last fall - including 4 that will be back for 2018. This program has had a very strong run of year-to-year improvement over the last 5 cross country seasons, which is an indication that they will overcome a possible lack of depth, their only potential weakness.  The only thing keeping Canyon out of the top 3 is the lack of big track times that we use as a measure of progress since November. Being in Division 2 also doesn't help the Comanches this year, because the field is pretty much just as loaded there as it is in Division 1, but this team is definitely on track to at least duplicate their 3rd-place finish from 2016. If everything falls right, this could be the 2017 state champion.
