You should NEVER count the Blue Devils out. Davis graduated superstar Fiona O'Keeffe and another senior off their 2015 team, and still came back to push Great Oak to their limit in 2016. So when I tell you that they lost two of their top 5 runners from that squad and still rank 3rd in the state for returning team 5K, it shouldn't be too surprising. I only have two minor concerns with the 2017 Blue Devils, which is why they aren't in my top 3 right now. First, this isn't the deepest team in the state (in both 2015 and 2016 Davis had a big drop between their 5th and 6th runners at the state meet), and graduation losses can accumulate over time. Second, their track times don't show a lot of progress during the spring - in 2016 they had the 6th-best returning 1600 times, with 3 girls at 5:04 or faster; this year, they're 24th with only defending state champion Olivia O'Keeffe under 5:14. Still, Davis has been one of the state's most consistent powers over the last 5 years, and I have little doubt that the Blue Devils will be ready to bring it again at this year's state meet.
