Boys #CountdownToXC Day 11: St. Francis Mountain View

You can be excused if you're outside the Central Coast Section and you've overlooked St. Francis. The Lancers did not race up to their full potential at the 2016 state meet, finishing 12th in Division 2. They return their top 5 intact from that meet, however, and this is the squad that won the CCS title on a 6th-man tiebreaker (always a good sign of depth). Even more important: St. Francis had a monster track season, with 5 returning runners under 4:30 in the 1600 and an entire 7 that cracked the 10-minute barrier. Colton Colonna led the way in the spring with a 4:18/9:24 double, and he will continue to work well with Shyam Kumar to hold down the front-running duties. If the next group (the Lancers' returning 3-7 runners that are separated by less than a minute) have stepped forward even a little bit, this will be a very tough team in 2017. I'm betting the state meet experience last November left St. Francis wanting more, and that's a powerful motivator in the summer!
