Girls #CountdownToXC Day 11: La Costa Canyon

This is the most complete set of data I have on any team in the countdown so far, and all of it shows a strong team on the verge of getting stronger. There's a LOT going for La Costa Canyon: they have a potent 1-2 combination in McKenna Brown and Krisin Fahy, they return 5 of 7 (including 4 of the top 5) from the squad that finished 4th in Division 3, and they put 6 girls under 12 minutes in the 3200 last spring. Let's talk about those track times some more: returning #3 Jessica Riedman looks like she might make it a 1-2-3 punch up front after clocking 4:56, and Kristin Fahy blazed to a 10:33 3200. The only real concern for the 2017 LCC team is depth - they had a significant drop-off after their 5th returner. With very good Improvement Ratings, though, we can expect the Mavericks to develop some young talent to fill in the gaps. It's not hard to imagine this team at least repeating last year's performance, and with two teams that scored ahead of them in 2016 getting hit hard by graduation, a podium finish is definitely within reach.
