Girls #CountdownToXC Day 14: Granada

Granada made the state meet last year, finishing a disappointing 12th in Division 2 after winning the North Coast Section title. You can excuse the Matadors for running out of gas a little bit at the end of the season, because they had 6 sophomores and a freshman in their top 7. Of course, that means the team has a two-year window to really light it up - and they may be ahead of schedule based on track times. Colleen McCandless looks like a budding star after running 4:58 & 10:43 in the spring, and she led 6 Matadors under 11:35 (including newcomer Savannah Maselli, who clocked 11:34 with no cross country stats). That would help address the only concern I have for Granada: in both the 5K and 3 Mile team rankings, they have a significant drop-off from #6 to #7. This team could catch a lot of rivals by surprise in 2017, and they have a chance to be in the top 5 overall when 2018 rolls around.
