This is another team that I expect to be surprisingly good in the upcoming season. Despite having three seniors in the top 7 and falling a scant three points short of making the state meet in 2016, the Comanches still return 5 sub-16 3 Mile runners (and two more under 16:10). Returning #2 runner Ryan Belda took a big step forward in the spring, clocking 4:24 and 9:41, which only helps to solidify a front 5 that had only a 35-second returning split. Canyon also benefits from the fact that D2 in the Southern Section was loaded with seniors last spring, which has helped bring some of the top teams back toward the Comanches. Expect this team to advance solidly out of their section and compete well at the state meet this year.
