Girls #CountdownToXC Day 20: Homestead

The defending Central Coast Division 1 champs are heavy favorites to win their section again, and the big question is what they can do in Clovis this November. Homestead returns 6 of 7 from the team that ended up a disappointing 13th at last year's state meet, with star Elena Kamas placing 21st individually (the team ranked 7th in D1 in the final 3 Mile rankings for the season). Has that final meet of 2016 served as year-round motivation? Results from track season certainly indicate that it has: the Mustangs had the 6th-best team 1600 times in the state, with last year's #4 runner Rebecca Hasser making the biggest leap forward, clocking 5:08. That has Homestead in position to put 4 girls under 18 minutes for 3 Miles, which in turn makes them very formidable. With enough depth and a strong summer, this team should be able to get the top 10 performance of which they were capable last year, and the Mustangs could threaten for a spot in the top 5 if everything comes together.
