Sacramento Meet of Champions Preview

1600 Meters
Girls Meet Record: Alex Kosinski Oak Ridge 4:38.15 2007
Boys Meet Record: Cooper Teare St. Joseph Notre Dame 4:07.78 2016

Olivia O'Keeffe Davis (SJS) finished in 4th place at last year's California state meet. She also won the Division I state cross country championship in the fall and helped lead the Davis girls' team to another podium finish at NXN. She was sidelined earlier this season with an injury but appears to be mending at the right time. She competed at the Halden Invitational in the 1600 and 800 and recorded season best times of 5:05.54 and 2:18.65 respectively. She will have her hands full in this race with the Denner sisters (Maddy and Elena). They finished an impressive 2nd and 3rd at Stanford in the mile and led the Oak Ridge DMR team to US #1 11:49.49.

The boys "mile" will actually be a mile as meet management changed the distance of this race so that Cooper Teare St. Joseph Notre Dame (NCS) and perhaps Luis Grijalva Armijo (SJS) take a shot at joining a growing group of high school sub 4 minute milers. Teare had a narrow miss at the Mt. SAC Relays as he recorded a personal best 4:00.16. Grijalva's last race was at the famed Stanford track where he recorded a PR of 3:47.17 in the 1500. That time converts to a 4:05.34 so he is within striking distance of Teare as both runners continue their spirited rivalry. The battle for third should come down to the following three runners: Robert Miranda Menlo 4:13.37, Evert Silva Fresno 4:13.84 and Michael Vernau Davis (4:15.47).
