Wheaton College Student Killed At Track Meet

Wheaton College student died Saturday after being accidentally struck in the head by a hammer that was thrown during a track and field competition. According to a press release from the college, 19-year-old Ethan Roser, a freshman transfer student from Cincinnati, was volunteering at the meet.

Roser was treated by paramedics on the scene and later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL, where he was pronounced dead.

It's unknown whether Roser was volunteering for the hammer-throw event or a nearby one when he was struck.

"We are deeply grieved, but, because of our faith in Christ, not without hope," Wheaton College President Philip Ryken said. "We ask people to pray for Ethan's family, his friends, and our campus community."

Students held a vigil Saturday night on the suburban Chicago campus.
