25th Annual Rocklin Thunder Invitational Preview

BOYS PREVIEW

RUNNING EVENTS

Starting out with the 400 Relay, Grant will try to improve their season best time of 42.86 which has them ranked 6th in the SJS. In the 1600m, Noah Wallace Rio Americano (4:23.34) and Brian Hastings Las Plumas (4:25.08) are the class of the field. Robert Holt Monterey Trail (15.32) will have his hands full with one of the better Northern Section athletes, Jamarquez Abrams Pleasant Grove (15.30). Zachary Larrier Monterey Trail is the only competitor entered in the 400 under 50 seconds with his 49.64 personal best from this season. Pleasant Grove senior James Hampton (photo above courtesy of John Hull) will be one of the stars in this meet as he has the leading marks in three events, 10.97 (100m), 22.53 (200m) and 21'7.5" (Long Jump). In the 800m, Nick Myers Pleasant Grove will battle against McKennion Melton Galena as they both come into the meet with sub 2 minute lifetime best times. Luke Rodriguez Wooster (9:47.86) and Justin Ferraro Rocklin (9:47.90) are very evenly matched in the 8 lap event. Pleasant Grove has the 7th fastest time in the SJS with a 3:28.66 season best time. Their closest competitors will be Monterey Trail and their 3:32.67 season best.

FIELD EVENTS

Out on the field, Andre Lope Grant (50'7") and Kari Kutch Shasta (50'3") are the top shot putters in the event and will both be state meet contenders in their respective sections. Taylor Brown West Valley (162'4") should dominate the discus event as the top thrower out of the Northern Section. The pole vault should have a classic battle between Quan Phan Monterey Trail (photo above courtesy of Tony Gates with Quan on the left has a best of 14'7") and Deven Hernandez West Valley (14'6"). It's possible that with the right conditions, both athletes may take a few attempts at the 15 foot mark which would certainly move them up the state meet rankings. Robert Holt of Monterey Trail is the 3rd ranked high jumper in the SJS and will be trying to improve his season best mark of 6'5". The top mark in the section belongs to two high jumpers (Isaias Hunter and Jake Grimsman) who have been cleared 6'8" this season.
