Week 3 Highlights: Woodbridge, De La Salle/Carondelet, Movin' Shoes!

Mt. Carmel Movin' Shoes Invitational

Some folks like to run on flat, fast courses early in the season.  Not the cream of the crop in the San Diego Section! Several of SoCal's best teams took to the challenging Balboa Park course Saturday for the Mt. Carmel Movin' Shoes Invitational.  The girls ran the 2.75 mile course there in two divisions, divided by grade level.  Kristin Fahy (La Costa Canyon) had the fastest time of the day, running 15:40.96 in the D2 Sophomore Girls race, and teammate McKenna Brown won the D2 Senior Girls race later in the afternoon.  In the morning Division 1 session, it was Laura Moran (Mt. Carmel) who held off Zoe Jarvis (Chaparral) for the win in the Senior Girls race. When you tabulate all the races together, La Costa Canyon scored 128 points to 169 for Trabuco Hills.

As for the boys, the 2.95-mile Balboa course is definitely the equivalent of flatter 3 Mile courses elsewhere.  Charlie Sherman (Loyola) showed that conclusively: he ran 14:41 at the Great Cow Run, then clocked 15:25 on the "shorter" course in San Diego Saturday.  That was good enough for a convincing win, as he beat Simeon Paul (Mt. Carmel) by 8 seconds for the D1 Senior Boys race win.  Darius Riley (Rancho Cucamonga) had the 2nd-fastest time of the day, posting a 15:31 while holding off Sam Boone (Mt. Carmel) by 4 seconds.  Also noteworthy was Kevin Ramos, who ran 15:38 while controlling the D2 Sophomore Boys race.  Sherman led Loyola to a dominating team performance on the day, scoring an accumulated 86 points to outpace Mission Viejo and Burroughs by well over 100 points.
