Reporters Wanted: Join the MileSplitCA Team!

We're expanding our coverage of California cross country & track this school year, and we have great opportunities in areas around the state!

Are you a former high school or college track athlete who stopped competing, but still loves and follows the sports?  Or maybe a parent who fell in love with the running sports, but now your young athletes have graduated?  A coach who has an outgoing personality and is looking for another way to impact athletes and promote track and cross country?  Are you interested in a career in sports media, and looking for a way to break in and a chance to move up?

We have an opportunity for you!  MileSplitCA is looking to expand our meet coverage this school year, and we are hiring freelance reporters in areas all around the state. A MieSplit reporter attends meets, gets video of the races (when allowed by meet policies), and interviews top-performing athletes on camera.  The reporter also needs to be able to process and upload the videos, potentially including some light editing.

Contact Jeff George (jgeorge@milesplit.com) if interested!

Skills Required:

  • Outgoing personality, willingness to reach out to athletes in person, by email, or on social media.
  • Knowledge of the sport, at least at the high school level.
  • Access to computer, internet, ability to process and upload video (we can help with software).
  • Writing skills and access to a video camera are also valued, and could open more opportunities.
