The historic CBA XC team took a big hit this off season as the big man and mastermind leading the team decided to hang up the spikes. Legendary Coach Tom Heath has been with the team since 1971. Longtime Assistant Sean McCafferty with step in and try to fill the shoes of one of the most well know coaches in HS XC. Alongside McCafferty is newly added Mike (Mazz) Mazzaccaro. Mazz was once called the "greatest cross country runner in CBA history," by Coach Heath according to Jim Lambert for NJ.com.
New coach or not CBA is coming off a solid season as they are the 2015 NJ XC State Champs. They also showed up big on the national level placing second at the NXN Northeast Regional Meet and 21st at NXN 2015.
With three returners coming back from last years team, CBA is third in the nation when it comes to top returning 5K times from the 2015 cross country season. They also rank 1st in the country in top returning 3200m & 1600m times from the 2016 track season.
Although new to being a head coach, McCafferty, has learned all he needs to know from Heath to make sure the CBA program doesn't skip a beat. Expect a huge first season from CBA under McCafferty's reign.
