California State Track and Field Meet: Field Events Preview

This year's state meet will feature two of the top throwers in US history, St. John Bosco senior thrower, Matt Katnik and Valley Christian SJ junior thrower, Elena Bruckner. Both have done quite well in both throwing events but it's in the shot put circle that each has secured historical seasons. Katnik has thrown over the 70 foot mark multiple times this season with his best at 72'3" at the Trinity League Finals. That mark is the 10th best throw in US history. Bruckner was consistently in the upper 40s throughout the season in the shot put until throwing 50'5.25" at the CCS Top 8 meet. Returning to the same venue at the CCS finals, Bruckner had one of the all-time greatest series culminating with a 53'5.5" bomb to end the competition. As with Katnik, Bruckner's mark is the 10th best in US history.

Here are all the field events that will take place this weekend. The marks listed are season best marks. Photos of the favorites (unless noted differently) are courtesy of Kirby Lee and www.imageofsport.com.
