Five new national leaders emerged from the high school sections over the course of the weekend, led off by the Campolindo girls Distance Medley Relay. With Foot Locker Finalist Toni Finnane opening and 4:54 miler Brighie Leach closing, the Cougars raced to an 11:56.51 US #1, a time that would have ranked 7th in the nation even at the end of the 2014 season.

The Stanford Invitational is one of the few meets on the schedule that offers a high school 3000, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that the meet produced a pair of US-leading times. Rylee Bowen (Sonoma) held off Morgin Coonfield (McKinleyville) to win in 9:49.61 US #1, while Kai Benedict (Chino Hills) claimed the boys' race with a time of 8:32.38 US #1. Likewise, both 400 Hurdles races produced big times, with Maya Miklos (Gunn) clocking 1:00.69 US #1 to take the girls race while Aidan Kirwan (Branham) ran 55.31 CA #1 for gold on the boys side. Kirwan also won the 110 Hurdles.

Finally, the newest event in the meet opened with a bang: the 800, replacing the 4x800 in the schedule for high school runners, was won by Connor Ross (McQueen NV) in 1:50.75 US #1. Ross dominated so much that he won by 1.5 seconds, a big gap for this race - and the second-place runner in the race was Arturo Sotomayor (Roseville), who clocked 1:52.20 CA #1 US #4!

Other Highlights:

• Sarah Walker (Germantown Friends PA) won the girls 800 with a US #5 time of 2:10.56.
• Christina Aragon (Billings MT) took home the gold medal for the girls mile, clocking a US #11 4:52.05.
• The boys DMR from Granite Bay won in 10:20.89 US #2.
• Steven Sum (Saratoga) outkicked Benedict in the mile, preventing him from getting his second win of the meet. Sum clocked 4:14.61, good enough for US #19 this season.
