SACRAMENTO, Californio-- McNeese State's freshman javelin thrower Chris Hill broke the 11 year old American junior record (19-and-under) here Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a throw of 238-10 in his only toss in the qualifying round.

Hill won his flight and will advance to the finals set for 9:15 (CST) Friday night. The old record of 238-8 was held by former University of Washington's star Troy Burkholder.

Hill, the fifth ranked javelin thrower in the nation, will be the third McNeese athlete attempting to become a national champion. Brad Gebauer, who is taking part in the pole vault competition later tonight, won the 2007 indoor national championship and Michael Roberson won the high jump in 1996.
