SACRAMENTO, California-- McNeese State pole vaulter Brad Gebauer advanced to the finals of the NCAA outdoor Track and Field pole vault competition here Wednesday night with a jump of 16-10. Gebauer is the second of two McNeese athletes attempting to become McNeese State's first NCAA outdoor champion.

Earlier in the day, freshman Chris Hill qualified for the javelin finals after breaking the 11 year old American junior record with a throw of 238-10. This is Gebauer's second NCAA appearance and first appearance in the finals. He failed to advance to the finals last season as a member of the Michigan State team.

The nation's third ranked pole vaulter will be attempting to win his second NCAA pole vault championship this season. Gebauer won the 2007 indoor event.

"We came here today and did what we had to do to get into the finals," said head coach Ty Sevin. "I like our chances for Friday."

Both athletes will compete in the finals on Friday with the pole vault event scheduled for 8:15 p.m. (CST) and the javelin scheduled for 9:15 p.m. (CST).
