Hey everyone, Kendall Ellis with what’s probably my final blog, at least for the season. I’m so very proud of my Raiders for sweeping the class 4A State Championship on both the girls and boys side! It feels good to win again on the girls side but even better to have a win on the boys side as well.
Like last year, the weather was a bit of an issue. Rainy, windy and cold was the forecast for the meet but it didn’t stop us from performing. I ran a personal best of 52.95 and defended my 400 meter title to become a 4 time state champion. I’m a tiny bit upset I didn’t get the state record (52.51) set by Sanya Richards-Ross but it’s all good. The 4x4 broke the state record and my teammate Alon is deserving of a huge shout for stepping in as an alternate first leg.
There were no tears, it wasn’t the time. Nothing but pure joy and happiness for my team as we stepped onto the podium as state champs. I’m proud to leave high school as part of such a phenomenal team and coaching staff and to say I was a Saint Thomas Aquinas Raider. Even though this was my final meet with the team, the show will still go on. These girls are in good hands and championships will continue to be won and records will continue to be broken.
First and foremost glory and thanks to God. A huge thank you to Todd and FL Runners for allowing me to blog throughout the season. I love writing and this has been such a stress reliever between meets. Thank you to my teammates for putting up with me and making this the most enjoyable high school career. Thank you to my coaches for sticking by my side through it all and never once losing faith in me. Thank you to my parents for the support and time they’ve invested in me. Thank you especially to those who’ve tweeted me, commented on Instagram, stopped me at meets, asked me for pictures. Thank you to those who’ve kept up with my blogs and results throughout the years and season. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for keeping me humble and level headed. Trust me, I’ve taken it all to heart.
I’ve loved my high school career and I’m looking forward to what’s next. It’s almost time to fight on as a USC Trojan!
